The Dudley Smith Initiative hosts two events in Christian County, Illinois, where the Dudley Smith Farm is located. A Summer Field Day is hosted at the Dudley Smith Farm between Taylorville and Pana, Illinois. A Winter Event is held at the University of Illinois Extension office in Taylorville, Illinois.

These two events feature speakers from academia and the agriculture sector. Research being conducted on the Dudley Smith Farm is highlighted, and researchers present information and progress on projects the Dudley Smith Initiative funds. An optional tour of the Dudley Smith Farm is traditionally available to participants at the Summer Field Day. The tour provides visitors an opportunity to view pasture paddocks and experience firsthand the research conducted on the farm.

The field days are free and open to the public.
